オバマ大統領の中国訪問と米中首脳会談 (11/19/09)

11月16日から18日まで中国を訪問したオバマ大統領は、17日に胡錦濤国家主席と北京で首脳会談を行い、米中関係、両国の戦略的信頼の構築、経済協力、地球規模の課題、気候変動などについて取りまとめた共同声明を発表しました。また環境問題での協力を目指し、クリーンエネルギー分野での合意文書が作成されました。18日にはオバマ大統領は温家宝首相と会談を行い、アジア歴訪の最後の訪問国、韓国に向かいました。

大統領エイズ救済緊急計画に関する報告書 (1/13/09)

大統領エイズ救済緊急計画（President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR）に関する報告書が、１月12日に連邦議会に提出されました。2003年から開始されたプログラムを総括するもので、この５年間の米政府の取組みと成果がまとめられています。報告書によると、HIVおよびエイズ対策として、米政府はすでに188億ドルを支出しています。

ESTA電子渡航認証システムの義務化 (1/9/09)

2009年１月12日より、日本を含むすべてのビザ免除プログラム対象国の旅行者は、ビザなしで短期商用あるいは観光目的（90日以下）で米国に渡航する場合、米国行きの航空機や船舶に搭乗する前にオンラインで渡航認証を受けることが義務化されます。以下のウェブサイトで申請手続きを行うことができます。

なお「グアムビザ免除プログラム」を利用してグアムに渡航する場合、機械読取式パスポート、e-パスポート（IC旅券）の所持義務はありません。 ESTA渡航認証を申請する必要もありません。グアムに16日以上滞在する場合や、グアムから米国の他の都市に引き続き移動する場合は通常のビザ免除プログラム（VWP）を利用してグアムに渡航する事が可能です。
