Consul for Public Affairs - Director, Fukuoka American Center

Tracy L. Taylor arrived in Fukuoka in August 2007 and serves as the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka's Consul for Public Affairs and Director of Fukuoka American Center. Previously she spent a year at the State Department's Japanese Language Field School in Yokohama. She has also served in Korea, Cambodia, Kuwait and Washington, D.C. Her assignment in Fukuoka is for three years.

Her connection to Japan began long before entering the State Department. Immediately prior to entering the Foreign Service in 2000, she worked for the Washington, D.C. bureau of Fuji TV, and she also participated in an internship at Iwate Nippo newspaper in Morioka during the summer of 1998. From 1993 to 1996 she lived in Omiya, Saitama during which time she taught English and was involved in international exchange programs. As her father is retired U.S. Air Force, she has moved frequently since birth – during her childhood her family accompanied him to Okinawa, where her younger sister was born.

She has a Master's Degree in Conflict Management from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies from Cornell University.

Ms. Taylor's interests include reading, sumo, noh theater, and visiting pottery towns and antique markets. She is in Fukuoka with her husband Masumi and daughter Naomi, who is 4 years old.
