About the Fukuoka Consulate

The Fukuoka Consulate is open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday, excluding Japanese and American holidays. We are closed for lunch from noon until 1 p.m.

NOTE: All non-emergency consular services are by appointment only.

Ohori Koen and Tojinmachi subway stations are equidistant from our office.

The American Consulate in Fukuoka City is located at the western end of Ohori Park, 20 minutes by subway from Fukuoka International Airport, and 25 minutes by taxi from the Hakata terminus of the Shinkansen bullet train.

In addition to our business and commercial activities, we provide consular services to the more than 5,500 civilian U.S. citizen residents of Kyushu (Fukuoka, Oita, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Saga, and Miyazaki Prefectures) and Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Japan. The Kyushu/Yamaguchi region receives over 20,000 American visitors annually and is home to two U.S. military bases.

Among the consular services we provide are passport issuances and renewals, registration of Americans born abroad, notarials, federal benefits, absentee voting, and special consular assistance in the event of the arrest, death, or medical incapacitation of an American citizen. Please see the visa section of this guide for further visa information.

We also stand ready to help the American community in the event of an emergency, such as a natural disaster. If you are unable to reach us directly during an emergency, please call the American Embassy in Tokyo (03-3224-5000), another American Consulate or Consulate General in Japan, or the Department of State Citizens Emergency Center at (202) 647-5225.

We cannot respond to every e-mail request we receive. Please address inquiries about our consular services to us via fax or letter rather than Internet e-mail. Thank you.
