Sept. 24, 2008, Kumamoto - Margot Carrington, Principal Officer of the American Consulate, Fukuoka, gave a lecture on the U.S.-Japan relations touching on the upcoming presidential election to the members of the Japan America Society of Kumamoto. The program was sponsored by the Japan America Society of Kumamoto.

The lecture followed the society's annual general meeting, and approximately 50 members participated in the program. Prior to the program, Carrington was interviewed by RKK TV and the Kumamoto Nichi Nichi Shimbun regarding working women in the U.S., in advance of a September 28 symposium on the same topic.
