Volunteerism in America (2/14/07)
President and Mrs. Bush celebrated the fifth anniversary of USA Freedom Corps (USAFC) on February 13, 2007.
In his 2002 State of the Union Address, President Bush announced the creation of USAFC to build on the acts of service and generosity that followed the September 11 attacks. USAFC promotes and expands volunteer service in America by partnering with national service programs, working to strengthen the non-profit sector, recognizing volunteers, and helping to connect individuals with volunteer opportunities.

Thurgood Marshall stands as one of the great American heroes of the 20th century: He was the attorney who ended legal segregation in the United States with his victory in the Brown v. Board of Education case, and the U.S. Supreme Court justice who championed expanded rights for every individual American - minorities, women, and immigrants, among many others.

American Diversity (1/4/07)
A steady stream of immigrants to the United States and moderate growth keep the U.S. population younger than other developed countries, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, which projects population in the United States on New Year’s Day 2007 to be 301 million people.
The 110th Congress will convene on January 4, 2007. It will be a Congress that reflects America’s diversity, closing not only the gender gap - with the highest number of women elected to Congress in history - but also the ethnic gap.
